Artist in Residence
Our students have had the amazing opportunity to work with Sharon Fortowski, our Artist in Residence. Looking through the discipline of geology and art, the students created rock layers (strata) using real rocks in an artistic representation. Ms. Fortowksi spent some time at Burnco, and came back with a fantasitc selection of pea gravel, dolomite, feldspar, lava rocks, shells, shale, etc. The students had four sessions where they built upon each layer using the materials. Ms. Fortowski shared images where people in the past really used ground up rocks...and.....spit(!) to create their art. Ask your child about the process and how they created their layers. Please take the time to look at your child's work at the upcoming conferences.
