Ms Bennett's class trip to the Glenbow Museum

Our trip to the Glenbow museum was a great way to end our rocks and mineral investigation. In the morning we found out why Alberta is a great place to find oil and gas.  We learned about the inland sea that covered part of the province. The best part was learning about  fascinating creatures that lived in the sea. We carefully examined fossils of some of these animals. Then we sketched the fossils and drew what we thought they might of looked like when they were alive. As well, we put on white gloves and examined fossils and items connected to the oil and gas industry. It was fascinating to examine a rock core sample.
In the afternoon we reviewed the rock cycle and then got lots of hands on time looking at rock samples. We were trying to figure out what they were. We worked in a rock lab that has amazing, huge rock and mineral samples on display. It also had lots of interesting maps related to rocks and minerals in Canada.
