This Weeks Highlights!

We have had an exciting week in Grade 3!

As we continue our Peru and Architecture work, we have explored important information to help us be successful. Starting with exploring Strong Shapes in Building Design - we learned that the strongest shapes are triangular truss' and arches because of even weight distribution and resistance. When working through an 'Iggy Peck, Architect' Challenge, the students had the opportunity to apply this knowledge in their design thinking process. Students were provided with a variety of household and recycled materials that they planned with in order to build a structure next week. Students worked collaboratively to explore the strength of these materials and created blueprints that will support their building process next week. Please view pictures below of our criteria and student work samples!

Peruvian artist Victor Deflin is our inspiration for our art current art pieces! Students are working towards achieving their final draft as they receive feedback from their peers and teachers on ways to improve their detailing and space. Students began by choosing a Peruvian animal and taking measurements to scale the picture and create a larger print. Next, working with negative space and sizing, the students worked towards achieving the appropriate size and shapes. Finally, after great amounts of perseverance, some students were at the point of adding patterns inside their animal shapes. Well done, Grade 3s!

Please ask your child which of the following Peruvian animals they chose:
Ocelot, Hairless Dog Andean Condor, Cock-of-the-rock, Anaconda, Pink River Dolphin, Alpaca, Viscacha, Puma, Guinea Pig, Bearded Emperor Tamarin, and Spectacled Bear!

We hope you all have a restful weekend!
